Steve and Bobby
Steve sees Bobby once a week at school but also writes to Bobby by mail. Not a week goes by when we don’t receive a fun letter for Bobby here in the CISR office. All correspondence has to go through the CISR office because the pairs are not allowed to share personal contact information like addresses or phone numbers.
The Impact of Letter Writing
Steve has been matched with his Mentee Bobby since 2007 and they are a wonderful match. Steve came into Bobby’s life in a very traumatic time.
Bobby has changed schools in the Renton School District three times and each time Steve has followed his Mentee to the new location. Bobby was once a very angry and quiet child but is now full of smiles and talks eagerly to his Mentor about things that interest and excite him. Their favorite thing to do together in elementary school was play “Wall Ball”.
Steve and Bobby actively correspond throughout the year with letters. Steve has always signed his letter “from your friend and mine", Steve and that is how Bobby signs his letters as well. Steve fills his letters with Art and interesting things to do, thought provoking and always includes an exercise for both the body and mind for Bobby to do. Bobby likes it when Steve uses big words and they discuss what it means.
Today Bobby is an 7th grader and really excelling in Middle School. He has been on the Honor Roll two quarters in a row. He and Steve continue their friendship of mutual respect and honor as they navigage towards a successful future for Bobby.
